MOVIE NIGHT at Victoria Park

'The Club' a 1980 Bruce Beresford film based on the 1974 David Williamson play starring Graham Kennedy as the Club president Ted Parker, Jack Thomson the coach Laurie and John Howard as the star recruit Geoff Haywood.  Also starring in cameo appearances are Ronnie Wearmouth, Rene Kink as 'Tank O'Donohue', Peter Daicos, Ray Shaw and many other old favourites from Victoria Park.  Plans are underway to have a special screening of The Club in the very building that the film was shot and all going well the planned renovation of the Jack Hickey Memorial Boardroom on level one will also be completed to add a special sense of nostalgia to the occassion.

BREAKING NEWS: We have recieved word that we have permission to screen The Club as a fund raiser for ongoing renovations and that the copies of the pictures used in the film will be given on permanent loan to Victoria Park as part of the refurbishment of the old Social Club.  We sincerely thank the people from The Club for their very generous support.

Plans are already under way for several community events in the coming months as Victoria Park becomes more and more accessible to the people it was given to.

We hope to have a working-bee to clear weeds and collect and dispose of some of the rubbish around the grand stands, but as can be appreciated in these paranoid and over-cautious days we must ensure that we have all the approriate consents and approvals.  We will announce the dates when things are a bit clearer.
